Talk Description: An argument can be made that we are using failed and obsolete defenses against 21st century cyberattacks. Currently, we create strong credentials that are hard to break, but easy to steal; we unintentionally design vulnerability into our systems, which require people to make consistently correct decisions about how to behave; we require secrecy to make the system work. To address these inherent vulnerabilities, we must eliminate static credentials, remove people from the process, and eliminate the need for secrecy. To our information systems hackers and intruders are just another user, and we must create a 21st century cyber security paradigm that will enable secure digital operations despite those vulnerabilities. We can accomplish that goal if we begin to think about cyber security in a new and entirely different way.
